  • Welcome to our Pressroom!

"Souls dwell in printers' type." --Joseph Ames

There is so much to be said about the process of letterpress. Starting with the care given while listening and learning from the client, to designing a piece that speaks of their vision, to the crafted precision that is taken in careful preparation for print and on to the motion and time poured over these time tested presses to ensure that the message first conceived is the message that is truly received. We hope you enjoy the process with us!

Introducing Bergen Wilder ~ Our Newest Pressman

On Saturday, July 21st, we welcomed our son, Bergen Wilder, into the world. At 5:34 pm he joined us weighing 8 lbs and 10 ounces and 20 inches long. He has us completely smitten with his sweet whimpers and lazy baby yawns. Rosemary could not be more proud of her “baby brother.” This little guy has us looking at the world with fresh eyes and a renewed sense of wonder. We hope you enjoy this glimpse into our personal lives.

Featured on Boxcar Press

We have many loves in our lives and one of them is our platemaker, Boxcar Press. They have been fantastic to work with and collaborate with to produce the plates we use to print the perfect printed legacies for our clients. When we were asked to be featured on their blog, we were more than thrilled, we were honored. Please grab a cup of coffee and sit back and enjoy the interview on their blog!

Christmas 2010 Personal Letterpress Cards

A blast from the holiday past! These were one of the first pieces we printed and pieced together. Every year for our sister company 6 of Four Photography we try to do a holiday card that will hopefully standout above the piles and piles of holiday cards that our friends, family, clients and colleagues will receive. Since 6 of Four already has letterpress business cards and stationery it made sense to print their first holiday cards

With the help of our dear friend Liz Chai from Finch & Willow, she designed a card that we personally and professionally loved! We wanted to really have this one stand out as well share indiscreetly about Farmwood Press and yet exhibit a little of what we can produce. We wanted to marry the world of letterpress and photography by actually mounting a photograph to the paper. We loved the simplistic design along with the alignment of the photograph. All of it was perfect!

We will share with you all a little about last year’s fantastic holiday cards that you will love! Stay tuned and thanks for enjoying our stories!

Printer’s Specs:

Invitation Size: 5″x7″
Envelope Size: A7

Paper: Invitation – Crane Lettra Ecru White 600GSM/220#

Rainbow One-Year Birthday Invitation

Last year we had the joy of printing this lovely rainbow inspired one year-old birthday invitation for the client’s sweet little one. The client is the author of a lovely blog Fudge Banana Swirl that has wonderful tips and finds for families.

This piece was perhaps one of our hardest to produce and most rewarding. Usually when you print letterpress, for the sanity of the pressman you want to stick with using between one and three colors. With each color comes an additional make-ready (or preparations which include lining up the plates, measuring impression on the paper for consistency and mixing and setting ink). Once done with one color we have to almost remake the entire press by washing up all plates and rollers and preparing for the next ink run. Imagine, I had to do all of that for each color.

Now the design is a different story. It was actually designed by the client. She did a lovely job incorporating chevrons instead of curves or loops for the “rainbow” look. Her choice of fonts were perfect as well. This piece will definitely be a solid portfolio piece that we are proud to have printed. We hope that it is going to be part of the client’s family legacy for generations to come.

Printer’s Specs:

Invitation Size: 5″x7″
Envelope Size: not included

Paper: invitation – Crane Lettra Fluorescent White 600GSM/220#

Inks: 6/0 - Custom matched Rubber Based

- Red
- Pink
- Orange
- Yellow
- Green
- Blue

* Bled the design to ensure adequate trimming of the piece
* We carefully printed each color on one pass. Some, due to registration issues we needed to trim the plate in threes to run through three times. This produced the fine registration you see.

We will let the unique designs speak for themselves and can purchased from our Felt & Wire or Etsy shops. These will really stand out among the usual cards and gift tags they will receive. Wedding Shower Letterpress Invitation for Cassie

One of our friends is getting married soon! So we have the joy of throwing her a wedding shower! Lucky for her we run a letterpress studio. We designed this piece with love and care knowing what a fun event we are going to throw.

Some of our favorite element is the printed back with the solid design that is similar to our little girl’s birthday invitation. This element allows the reader to, when holding the card, to feel the back to enjoy the experience in receiving this invite. Also the envelope we printed the return address on the back flap that continues to the front with and area designed for the recipient’s address.

Kiss Books Halftone Business Cards

We are excited about these cards. Our first company is a photography company. It is a great honor when those from the photography industry seek Farmwood Press to print their materials. Kiss Books is no exception. One of the owners, designed this piece that featured a halftone. There were 5 versions for each person representing their company on the back side with a reverse impression with their logo on the front. It’s a fantastic piece and we hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed printing them.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE these cards! I am an architect, my partner, a photographer and we appreciate the design and quality of these cards. I have Farmwood Press copper plate stationary for my personal use, but what a wonderful marketing tool it would be to have your business cards.
